Quality + Outcomes + Research
Orthopedic + Fracture Specialists are committed to providing quality patient-centered care. One of the ways we accomplish this is through the collection of Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs). PROMs are questionnaires filled out directly by our patients reporting their pain, mobility, and ability to complete tasks and activities. PROMs allow our patients to share their progress along their journey to recovery. The data that we receive from PROMs is invaluable, allowing us to track the individual progress of our patients, and discover opportunities to improve care. We want to thank our patients for taking the time to complete each survey.
OUTCOMES IN ACTION
Through our data collection software system we’re able to compare our outcomes data with other clinics that use the same system across the nation. See how we compare below:
RESEARCH
Our team of physicians have been actively engaged in clinical research for decades and are committed to advancements in the field of orthopedics. One of our guiding principles is providing the best possible care for our patients and research supports that principle in the discovery of better treatment options and outcomes. The team is widely published in various subspecialities such as sports medicine, arthroscopy, arthroplasty, etc. Several of our physician are actively enrolling patients in a number of industry-sponsored studies on an ongoing basis and following their care closely.
One of the biggest driving forces behind our research efforts is Dr. Paul J. Duwelius, M.D., who dedicated 27 years of service to the patients of Orthopedic + Fracture Specialists and continues to play an active role despite his retirement in orthopedic research as the director of The Providence Orthopedic Institute despite retiring from practicing medicine in 2022. He has left a significant impact on the next generation of physicians aspiring to follow him in his footsteps.
Dr. Duwelius drew his inspiration and love for research from his previous partner and mentor at Orthopedic + Facture Specialists, Dr. John Hayhurst, M.D., who invented and patented a device in the early 1980s for a suture anchor, commonly used in the field of sports medicine around the world.
Dr. Hayhurst continues to support research in the field of orthopedics along with his wife, Sue with the creation of the John and Sue Hayhurst Fund for Orthopedic Research. Check out page 35 HERE to learn more about his gift to improve orthopedic care!
