Profile

Monica has always wanted to help people move well. She started as a high school swim coach, worked in fitness as a personal trainer and group fitness instructor, and dabbled in high school strength and conditioning before finally settling on the field of athletic training.

Monica is from Sacramento, California and received her Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology from San Jose State University, where she specialized in adapted physical activity: working with swimmers in the Special Olympics as well as individuals in aquatic therapy. She went on to pursue her Master's degree in Athletic Training from Fresno State University, working primarily with their Football team, Women's Soccer team, and Track & Field teams. Through in her Master's program, she was able to intern at Portland State University and found that she wasn't as deterred by the rain as she thought she would be.

Now the Athletic Trainer at Ida B. Wells High School, when not working with student athletes she spends much of her time hiking, eating, and paddleboarding her way through the Pacific Northwest.
