McPherson S. Beall, M.D.
Explaining that the meticulous nature of hand surgery is a perfect match for his personality, Dr. McPherson Beall could also be referring to his entire approach to treating his patients. “The longer I’ve been in practice the more I’ve realized that the patient’s unique goals, social circumstances, and other challenges can be the greatest factor in determining the right approach,” he says.

An avid cyclist who is married with two children, he goes to great lengths to listen to and communicate with patients about the range of treatment options. Understanding the patient’s goals, desires, and any impediments to recovery is essential.
Dr. Beall received his medical degree from the University of Michigan, did his residency in Missouri and two fellowships in hand surgery in California. He treats a variety of issues of the hand, wrist and elbow, including trauma, arthritis, nerve injuries or compression (carpal tunnel syndrome), and management of the upper extremity in children with congenital differences.
With an undergraduate degree in Philosophy from Stanford, it’s not surprising that Dr. Beall is driven by the intellectual challenges his job offers.
“Sometimes the solution is surgical,” he says. “But many times it’s a matter of managing the symptoms while finding the right way to help the body heal itself over time.”
Dr. Beall is a member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand.
